Confusion is something that repels! Nobody wants to stay in confusion and when something is confusing, the common human tendency is to reject it if possible. Misused words

Many people have the tendency to use certain words wrongly either because they are unaware of the real meaning or because the incorrect word sounds similar to the word they intended to use. Improper word choice may sometimes result from errors in grammar and spelling, but whatever may be the case, you must make your copy free from them.

If a car dealer uses the phrase “your vehicle is ensured” in place of “your vehicle is insured” it can lead to a lot of miscommunication. While ‘ensured’ means guaranteed, insured means ‘protected by insurance’.

Words that might mean something negative

Therefore, avoiding words with negative connotations is something that you must think of before developing a flyer, brochure or leaflet for cheap printing. The words you choose must not have double meanings or they should not signify anything negative to offend the reader.

For instance, if you are selling a beauty cream, the sentence ‘get a youthful look with our product’ is much better that ‘get a juvenile look with our product’. Both are related to youth, but while ‘youthful’ is more associated with vitality, childhood, cheerfulness, the word ‘juvenile’ can possess negative connotations, implying a kind of immaturity.

Mismatched words

Some words are not wrong, but they can convey the wrong message by going against your brand. For example when you are selling a diamond necklace to high-end customers, using the word ‘cute’ to describe your product may demean its value. The right word to use here is ‘elegant’, because this word goes well with upscale consumers.
